![]() All three audio tracks were recorded with the exact same settings. Then, the Razer Basilisk, and finally the G502. Here's a little sound test I put together with the three mice I own - first, the MX Master. It literally sounds like you're firing a Nerf gun or something. And don't even get me started on the free-scroll release button. I'm not exaggerating when I say that both the sound and the experience of scrolling this mouse wheel is almost identical to operating a ratchet wrench. Between the hollow chatter and the grating feeling, I am honestly insulted that Logitech sold me this for $140. You could literally hear me scrolling from another room. ![]() The stepped notches on the mouse wheel are atrocious. It's a hair lighter than the Basilisk, and while that's a positive in many people's column, it contributes to the perception of flimsy quality. The buttons have a hollow, springy, tinker-toy sound. The mouse feels insanely cheap for its $140 price tag. This isn't a huge deal, because I know a lot of people aren't using this mouse wired.which weren't deal breakers except. The included wire is a stiffer, heavy "Apple-like" charging cord. While the rubberized sides feel nice, the rest of the body is a very smooth, non-textured plastic that isn't pleasant to hold. While the G502 is longer and fills my hand better, it isn't any taller or wider, and therefore the issue I have with my pinky resting on the pad instead of the mouse is still present. The textured rubber on the sides of the mouse is very nice. The placement of the side index finger buttons is really intuitive and I could actually see myself using them The longer body is preferable to the Basilisk. I really like the way this mouse looks. I'm not a twitch gamer and I actually like my mouse to have a little bit of heft.Īll that said, now that it's here and in my hands, I'm feeling pretty let down after setting my expectations really high. ![]() It wasn't marketed as super light, which I personally don't need or care for. It can be used wired and wireless, so I could plug it to my personal PC and get super-low latency and also use it with my work PC. It's supposed to be for bigger hands, which I really needed coming from the Basilisk. It has a free-scrolling wheel mode activated by a button. It has a thumb rest, which is a must for me. There's also a non-RGB model, which just fits my aesthetic better. It comes in white and grey, which looks awesome next to my NuPhy 75. So, I settled on the G502 because of its die-hard fan base, what it has, and also what it does not: The other issue is Razer's software, which despite having uninstalled it after saving my profile, still manages to pop up every now and then. I always find that the side of my hand drags on the mouse pad, and my pinky can't find a place to rest. Even though my hands are solidly in the "medium" category, the Basilisk makes me feel like Andre the Giant. The problem with the Basilisk is mainly size. The MX Master also has this and it's a godsend for getting through long pages of logs and code. stepped scrolling until you spin it fast, and then the "clutch" releases and lets the wheel spin freely. It's also the only gaming mouse I know of that also has a clutch-based free scroll wheel - ie. ![]() ![]() The Basilisk, on the other hand, is amazingly responsive. The MX Master is an amazing productivity mouse, but isn't the snappiest and can only be used wirelessly. When I game I usually play RPGs, strategy, and sims like Factorio and Satisfactory. My MX Master is what I use with my work laptop and the Razer Basilisk is my web development/design/gaming mouse attached to my personal PC. I have realized that maybe I'm not the intended audience.įor some background, I was in the market for a mouse that would replace my MX Master 3 and Razer Basilisk V3 (wired). I realize that the G502 has some pretty die-hard fans and this isn't to knock them or the mouse. I decided to write my thoughts up as a very opinionated review. I was so excited for this mouse to come in now I'm in shambles.
